Students’ fun night out

THE students arrived on a red carpet and made entrances dressed in stunning outfits like Hollywood stars. It was a night the students would remember.

There were fine dining, good company, a show of talents in music and dance by the students from beginning to end until the ‘king and queen’ of the prom were crowned.

Organised by Equator Academy of Arts (EAA) Penang's Student Representative Council (SRC) at QEII, Tanjung City Marina in Weld Quay, the prom night was the college's first in many years.

Interior Design student Foo Xiao Qin, 20, was 'dressed to kill' in an elegant black evening gown, which won her the award for best-dressed female.

“It feels great. I am so thrilled right now. But I did not think I would be prom queen,” she said, after beating three other finalists.

Another Interior Design student Shawn Tan, 18, who beat four other prom king finalists, won judges' hearts with his smooth hip hop dance moves.

Graphic and Multimedia Design student H’ng Yann Herng, 20, better known as Elvis that night, won awards for being the best talent and best-dressed male.

SRC chairman Tan Mei Qing, 20, said the students had always wanted a prom night just like other colleges and universities.

EAA principal Datuk Chuah Kooi Yong said the event was a great experience for its young organisers, teaching them about event management and teamwork.
