PKR: Anwar has won by-election

BUTTERWORTH: PKR has claimed that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has won the Permatang Pauh by-election by a majority of 17,652 votes.

The party claimed that Anwar polled 31,949 votes against Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah's 14,297. Hanafi Hamat of Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim) received 74 votes.

A total of 38,144 voters cast their ballots in the by-election, representing 65.25% of the total number of registered voters for the constituency.

The counting of votes started almost immediately after polling closed at 5pm. Present at all centres were representatives from both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat to witness the tabulations.

Meanwhile, the case of five buses suspected to be carrying phantom voters is currently being investigated by the police.

Three of the buses are at the Seberang Jaya police station while the other two are at the Mengkuang homestay village.
